Bed Bug Bite Pictures

Bed bugs have had a rather large resurgence in the past few years.  There are several speculative reasons for the over 500% increase in bed bug cases in the United States, including different pesticides being used, increased international travel and various household sanitary methods that replaced older one that took care of bed bugs.  DDT is what originally wiped out bed bugs in the U.S., and when it was banned in 1972, bed bugs rates started to slowly grow, not hitting a large increase until the recent years when household pesticides were commonly replaced with bait traps.

These may be the culprits of those red marks you wake up with.  Bed bugs are a primarily nocturnal insect, feeding mainly at night when you are asleep.  Since their bite is painless, their dinner time does not interfere with your slumber. This bed bug bite picture shows the little insect when it's almost done feeding.  While bed bugs tend to be a translucent color normally, when they feed they develeop a deep red coloration due to the blood they've injested.

They will appear as either a small red patch or welp, or as a small red bumb.  Bed bug bites are caused by the reaction of the persons body to the insects saliva.  During the course of a night, a person may be bitten by several bed bugs, leaving large areas covered with bite marks like this.

While bed bugs may bite any area of the body they can, they tend to concentrate their bites on the arms, legs, neck and the lower abdominal/groin area.  The size of the bite mark depends on the persons reaction to the bed bug's saliva, as well as what stage of life the bed bug is in.  Bed bugs in the adult stage of life tend to take more blood, allowing more time for saliva to interact with the body.

picture of Feeding Bedbug    Bed bug bites can start to bleed from the point of entry, where the bed bug broke the skin in order to get bood.  Scratching can cause this area to bleed again, even several days after the bite. Bed bug bites can become infected and inflamed easily, especially in areas where they will be rubbing against something very often, like the hands or feet.  The rubbing can cause the irritation and potentially break the skin again, and additional bacteria can cause an infection in the wound.

The legs are the most common target.  Since the legs are the most covered part of the body when you sleep, the environment is perfect for a bed bug feeding frenzy. New York City and several other large cities have seen drastic spikes in the number of bed bug cases, namely in hotels.  Since hotels main guest are travelers, they can carry bed bugs in with their luggage and leave them in a single night without knowing a thing.  Once one room has an infestation, they will slowly spread to several other rooms.

While there have been no known cases of bed bugs transmitting infectious disease, they are considered by many scientists to be one of the perfect carriers.  If you believe you may have a case of bed bugs, you should contact an exterminator immediately.  Cases of bed bugs can get out of control quickly, which makes them harder to get rid of.

I just found out after several weeks, that the red marks I had on my legs, thighs were coming from bed bugs. Someone told me that alchol will help while the extermination process is taking affect. I have used medicated power and baby oil, to dry the sores. That has really worked, The baby oil stops the from biting and the alochol they just don't like. My husband has been in the bed with me and he has no bites at all. What causses me to be bitten and not him. My next step before the exterminator comes back is wet my bed down in the alochol. The medicated powder spread over the sores has help with the itching, also home depot has something called night crawlers it's a spray I'll pick that up tomorrow. I live in a apartment and my neighbor also has them. I hear they come through the walls.

Ok this is a real problem why dosen't any stores carry something to get rid of bed bugs without having to order it? This should be on every store self for everyone to buy cheap! We need to get this under control. We're never going to control this if the poor can't buy or aford someone like Terminix. So the spreading of these pests keep growing, and places like Terminix get fat wallets while we all suffer.

I awakened at my hotel in Redding at 4:30 am and found bed bugs in both beds and on me. I freaked out, called the front desk, packed up and left. This experience makes me fearful when staying in a hotel. I might as well sleep in the car and not be fearful of t"he bug attack"
The itching began about 3-4 days later.....I will never stay in Redding again. Since then I have read they have a real problem. There is a bed bug registry of hotels that are reported with bed bugs.

I do not think your bites were from bed bugs.....They only come out when you are sleeping and they cannot be felt...You were bitten by FLEAS...nonetheless, they present their own misery and can carry lyme disease...So if you feel flue like in the next few months...SEE A DOCTOR !!!!

My husband and I just stayed at a hotel in San Antonio. I got bit so bad by what I believe are bed bugs. When you sat at the desk it was as if they were jumping on your legs. The itching is horrible. I'm applying calamine lotion which alleviates the itching but its hard. Our luggage is still outside as I refuse to bring it in the house. I opened the suitcase and carefully picked up the clothing and washed. When I arrived from the airport I came in throught the basement, stripped and immediately jumped into the shower. I don't want this crap in my bed. This is terrible for anyone to go through.

I have bites that are sporadic throughout my body. They are not in a row. I have not seen any bed bugs, but then I have not looked yet either. I am 99% convinced that they are bed bug bites. I'll tell ya it really sucks!!! What can one use to treat the bites and are scars left on the body?

The pest control should spray twice, two weeks after the first spraying. This kills any hatching bb's that weren't caught the first time.

hi. about 2mths ago,i started to get little pimple looking things that itched crazily on my BUTT! i quickly dismissed it but after a few days,i found that they started to pain immensely. when i looked at it, they were HUGE inflamed welts...about 4inches in diameter! i did everything possible to stop the pain but nothing worked. eventually, i took the worst pain i've ever had and squeezed the pus and infected blood out and then it was better. then a few days after, more appeared. i was getting really fed up so my mum called the exterminator. that was about 2wks ago. about 5days ago, my legs were really itching and i didn't think anything of it. then it started to get REALLY huge again and inflamed, just like the bed bug bites.i was wondering, could the bites take so long to become infected (becuz the exterminator came so they were all supposed to die)? or does it mean that i still have bed bugs?
